There's just something wonderful and special about a campfire. The aura that it gives to the evening. So relaxing if you want it to be or exciting when families laugh, talk and roast marshmallows. You can close your eyes and your mind brings the smell and the crackling sounds of the fire right to you. Amazing how the brain does that. Good memories come from these little things in life. We hurry through the days, everything so fast paced we hardly have time to stop and just enjoy our lives. Then something as simple as a campfire is so settling and calming to our minds. We can relax and just enjoy the tranquility it can bring. It's especially nice if we turn off the cell phones, house phones and shut out the world for a short moment.
The memories our minds store up. When I think back over the years of the campfires in my life I remember when I was a girl scout, we got to roast hot dogs over the fire. High school brought bonfires for the football games. Camping when our girls were much younger at the state park in Hobe Sound, Fl. Then I was a girl scout leader and our girls were brownies and girl scouts, more campfires. AWANA in Fl we had a weekend camp, again, campfires. Youth group trips to Ridgecrest youth camp in NC, more campfires. Reunion in Michigan at the camp ground with a fun hayride and...campfires. We even had a campfire in Alaska that was awesome. It brings back special memories, all wonderful and the smiles when you remember something special from each time you were sitting by the fire. Sometimes just a cup of hot chocolate or coffee, quietly looking at the stars and just feeling peacefulness at the end of a long day.
Building memories for our children and grandchildren is so important. I hope one day they will look back and remember fun times around... the campfires.
